Festival Lumiere 2017 : european and american movie stars are in lyon

It is official, the 9th edition of the festival Lumière 2017 opened this Saturday October 14th at the Halle Tony Granier in front of about 4.600 spectators. The ritual is as usual but with a little surprise. A spotlight on Mexico : The orchestra mariachis played the serenade of Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron. The latter two were present; there was much excitement.

It is official, the 9th edition of the festival Lumiere 2017 opened this Saturday October 14th at the Halle Tony Granier in front of about 4.600 spectators. The ritual is as usual but with a little surprise. A spotlight on Mexico : The orchestra mariachis played the serenade of Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron. The latter two were present; there was much excitement.

The inevitable Thierry Frémaux invited the leaders of the french, spanish, mexican, américan, cinema (actors film makers, composers) and political leaders present to come on stage for the festival launch. The message is in French and the all played the game – This was wonderful. 

They have all turned up: 

Actors : Vincent Lindon, Thomas Ngijol, Gérard Jugnot, Daniel Brühl, Christophe Lambert, Jean-François Stévenin, Pierre Richard, Pierre Deladonchamps, Laurent Gerra.

Actresses : Marina Foïs, Catherine Frot, Ludivine Sagnier, Marisa Paredes, Michèle Laroque, Marina Golbahari, Tilda Swinton, Karole Rocher.

Movie makers : Guillermo del Toro, Michael Mann, Alfonso Cuaron, Anne Le Ny, Robert Guédiguian, Christian Carion, Tonie Marshall, Robin Campillo, Danièle Thompson, Éric Lartigau, Jerry Schatzberg, Juan Antonio Bayona, Philippe Le Guay, Jean-Paul Salomé, Jacques-Rémy Girerd.

Yarol Poupaud (guitarist) and Alexandre Desplat (composer).

Finally, the movie La Mort aux Trousses d’Alfred Hitchock was shown just after their departure.

Wong Kar-War, Prize winner of Lumière 2017 will feature during the closing ceremony with the projection of one of his films : In the Mood for Love

A new  life to old movies.

From the (14th to the 22nd of October) 180 films for 400 sessions will be shown in Lyon’s movie theatre.
